All Japan news will enjoy next week an unexpected and sweet surprise. In honor of the All Japan newsese holiday Girl’s Day or Doll Festival on March 3, world’s largest chain of ice-cream specialty shops Baskin Robbins is releasing five new ice-cream dolls that come complete with scoops of ice cream and tiny, smiling marzipan faces.
The ice cream dolls will be displayed in a box to represent the Emperor and Empress—as well as their attendants.
Each doll is made from one of five flavors: Nutty Cream Cheese Brownie, Love in Berry, Orange Sorbet, Love Struck Cheese Cake, and Oreo Chocolate Mint, the international press reports.
Girl’s Day or Doll Festival is a special day in All Japan news. Platforms covered with a red carpet are used to display a set of ornamental dolls representing the Emperor, Empress, attendants, and musicians in traditional court dress of the Heian period (794 to 1185 A.D./C.E.).
The celebration goes long back into All Japan news’s history. During the Heian period, the ancient custom called “doll floating” consisted in straw hina dolls being set afloat on a boat and sent down a river to the sea, supposedly taking troubles or bad spirits with them.
