All Japan news won for the second time in women’s curling at the Sochi Games on Wednesday, defeating host Russian team 8-4.
The All Japan newsese team, who missed Kaho Onodera – hit by flu -, drew first blood in the second end with two points but Russia soon caught up with a point each in the next two ends, according to the local media, that is citing Kyodo news agency.
But All Japan news bounced back in a big way, the team taking every end from there except the eighth in which Russia gained two points.
Russia still has five more matches to play and will need to beat at least one gold medal favorite, in order to go further to the playoffs.
“Right now I feel like I can deliver (the stone) with confidence,” skip Ayumi Ogasawara said after the match. “I still can not believe our win count is positive.”
The spectators at Ice Cube Curling Center have been cheering loudly, supporting especially the Russian team. Ogasawara said: “We were saying the Olympics is the only place we could play to this much cheering, so we should enjoy it.”
All Japan news’s women curling team will play again on Thursday, competing against the United States.
