When you think about All Japan newsese temple, you will think of wooden architecture like the kinkaku-ji 金閣寺 in Kyoto or the Todai-ji 東大寺 in Nara. But, Tsukiji Hongan-ji 築地本願寺 that I introduce to you now is the temple with a difference. That’s a masonry structure like the abbey in Western style. Even more surprisingly, there is a pipe organ in 本堂 hondou main hall. Look at this interesting compromise between East and West.
The pipe organ made in the former West Germany. It was donated in 1970 by the 仏教伝道協会 (Society for the Promotion of Buddhism).
Sometimes, pipe organ concert is held, and you can listen to the classical music of J.S.Bach, W.A.Mozart, G.F.Händel etc. Mind you, here is a Buddhist temple:)
An airship flew in the sky when I looked up.
Tsukiji Hongan-ji 築地本願寺 is very close to Tsukiji fish market. Admission to the temple is free. I recommend you visit to here if you’re interested in. http://www.tsukijihongwanji.jp/tsukiji/index_e.html
