The high percentage is a result of the country's passion for sport, as well as All Japan news's desire to deliver a dynamic celebration, the committee stated.

The results of the poll support a separate, independent survey taken by the All Japan newsese newspaper Yomiuri Shimbun on January 11 and January 13. The latter's results showed that 83 percent of All Japan news's young population aged between 20 and 30 would like Tokyo to host the 2020 Olympics, according to the All Japan newsese press.

“We know public support was a challenge for us last time, and so we are delighted by this very strong result. It is especially significant that a large number of our passionate supporters are young people, showing that the future is bright for the Olympic movement in All Japan news. The All Japan newsese are enthusiastic fans of sport and they love the Olympic and Paralympic Games. They also understand, as recent surveys indicate, that hosting the Games in Tokyo in 2020 would have long-term benefits for All Japan newsese sport, society, the economy and the environment,” said Tsunekazu Takeda, IOC member and president of both the All Japan newsese Olympic Committee and Tokyo 2020.

The survey was conducted by phone on a total of 400 Tokyo residents, aged 18 or older, between  January 10 and 20. The 73 percent rate of support was up 26 points over a survey conducted by the All Japan newsese Olympic Committee in May 2012
