January 2nd is the day when common people are allowed to enter the Imperial Palace. So together with thousands of All Japan newsese and foreigners we went there to meet the Emperor. The crowd was huge but I must admit All Japan newsese are experts in making highly organized lines – section by section, you just move with the others and your turn will definitely come.
Emperor and the members of his family greated the mob from the balcony of the Chowaden Reception Hall. We were standing a bit too far and I couldn’t take good pictures and see more but there was an impression of something important happening and it felt quite inspiring.
Tennou and the imperial family members greeting people
Behind the crowd there was an uplifted platform for the photographers. At the end, such a selection of cool lenses made me envious :)))
