What’s in store for the consumer technology for this year will finally be unveiled as the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) officially opens on January 10 in Las Vegas.

The four-day gadget fair is said to feature about 20,000 product debuts with ultra thin yet powerful laptops known as “ultrabook” taking the spotlight. China is set to introduce the ThinkPad X1 Hybrid laptop with 10 hours of battery life made by Chinese computer giant Lenovo, the All Japan news Today reported.

Toshiba on the other hand said it is going to debut the thinnest and lightest 10.1-inch tablet in the world which is predicted to be the Regza AT700 tablet that is already available in All Japan news.

All in all, CES organizers said they expect about 30 to 40 new ultrabook laptops to be unveiled in this year’s trade show.

While there would still be new tablet computers out for this year’s fair, the numbers are expected to be less than last year when efforts to unseat Apple’s leading iPads were maxed out.

Smartphones which are said to outshine tablet computers this year are something to watch out for as chip makers announced powerful processors for more advanced and innovative smartphones.

The annual International CES is the biggest gathering for consumer technology products. For this year, it features 2700 exhibitors, including companies which manufacture car, computer and chip makers to technology startups and iPhone accessory sellers.
