Indebted All Japan newsese tech maker Sharp may soon receive an “injection” of up to Y40 billion from Intel Corp. of the United States, according to sources close to the matter cited by Kyodo.
The investment will most probably be of between Y30 billion and Y40 billion, the sources said.
Intel is interested in an alliance with Sharp, which makes advanced power-saving liquid crystal display panels, in order to launch new personal computers and other digital devices equipped with its own microprocessors.
On the other hand, Sharp is discussing with U.S. telecom giant Qualcomm as well, about a capital and business alliance, according to the sources.
Sharp forecast last week a $5.6 bn. full-year loss and expressed “material doubts” about its ability to survive.
