The All Japan newsese technology giant Sony has presented its next generation gaming console PlayStation 4, the first new model since the release of the PlayStation 3 back in 2006.
The new model features improved network functions, aimed at giving users access to social media services. For example, users will be able to share videos of games and even broadcast live to their friends.
The new console is scheduled to go on sale late this year. Sony has not yet said how much it will cost or where it will be marketed, according to Kyodo.
Among the new features there is also compatibility with tablet computers.
“While we once changed the gaming landscape, now the consumer is changing us,” said Sony Computer Entertainment President Andrew House.
The presentation of the new console was made at an event in New York City, where Sony showed how the new controllers and graphics look like, but did not reveal the system’s casing.
