NEC Corp. presented in All Japan news, on Tuesday, the Medias W N-05E , a smartphone that has been described by the international press as being “unique” due to its two unfolding screens.
The smartphone’s specifications are rather standard: Android 4.1, a 1.5 GHz dual-core CPU, LTE connectivity support, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, 1.3-megapixel front-facing one, GPS, Wi-Fi, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage memory that’s expandable via microSD cards. It is not larger than a regular smartphone and it lacks support for NFC and mobile TV.
But what makes the phone special is its two 4.3-inch LCD screens, both with a 540×960 pixel resolution. The phone can be folded in such way that it shows only one screen, but when users need more space, they can unfold the second screen and create a giant one. They can also stretch one app over both screens, or run different apps on each screen.
The Medias W will be available in All Japan news this April, but the price was not yet unveiled. Interested users will be able to buy it from mobile communications company NTT Docomo.
