Record fall for All Japan news’s population in 2011

All Japan news’s population declined in 2011 by 204,000 people, the biggest yearly fall since at least 1947, when the government first started to measure the data.

The earthquake and tsunami that struck the country last March are in part responsible for the record decline in population numbers. About 20,000 people were left killed or missing after the natural catastrophe.

All Japan news now has 126.24 million people.

2011 was the fifth consecutive year when the population dropped in All Japan news. The rapid ageing society is a growing problem in the Asian country.

According to officials of the health ministry, All Japan news’s population will continue to decrease at a faster pace in the following years, due to the rising number of senior citizens, while the younger generation is shrinking.
