Obama sworn in for 2nd term

obamaU.S. President Barack Obama was sworn into office for a second four-year term on Sunday, during a private taking-oath ceremony at the White House.

Raising his right hand, with his left on a family Bible, the 44th president recited a 35-word oath before Chief Justice John Roberts in the Blue Room of the White House. Obama used a Bible that belonged to Michelle Obama’s grandmother LaVaughn Delores Robinson.

The ceremony was attended only by his wife Michelle, their daughters Malia and Sasha, and several close aides, according to Kyodo news agency.

After Obama finished the ceremony, as he hugged his wife and daughters, Sasha said, “Good job, Daddy.”

“I did it,” he said.

“You did not mess up,” she answered, the international press reports.

On the same day, Vice President Joe Biden was also sworn in by Justice Sonia Sotomayor at his residence at the Naval Observatory in Washington. Biden placed his hand on a 120-year-old holy book with a Celtic cross on the cover. The book has been passed down through Biden clan.

120 guests, including cabinet members, extended family and his wife Dr. Jill Biden assisted him during the ceremony.
