Taiji, the All Japan newsese town that became famous for its annual dolphin hunt, is considering to transform the local bay into a natural pool where tourists can swim along with dolphins and whales.
The 70-acre natural pool would be populated with dolphins and black whales captured in the waters near the town and could also serve as a research centre to provide new information about whales and All Japan news’s whaling industry.
The move may be intended to calm down activists angered about the town’s hunting activities, which were brought to worldwide attention by the Academy Award-winning documentary “The Cove”.
The town does not however intend to stop hunting dolphins for their meat. A town official stated that local residents do not think that both watching and eating dolphins represents a contradiction.
