The president of All Japan news department store chain Lumine was found dead in Tokyo on Tuesday in an apparent suicide, according to local media reports.
Tetsujiro Tani, 61, was found hanging by a riverbank in the capital city’s Katsushika Ward at around 10 p.m. on Tuesday.
Tani’s body was found with an apparent suicide note, according to police.
The 61-year-old took over as the president of Lumine in June 2009, after resigning from his post as vice president of JR East. Perhaps his biggest achievement as president was overseeing the development of Lumine’s Yurakucho store, close to Tokyo’s fashionable Ginza shopping district, which is set to open in the autumn.
