Manga series “Attack on Titan”, written and illustrated by All Japan newsese manga artist Hajime Isayama, will inspire a live-action movie adaptation.
“Attack on Titan” revolves around Eren Yeager and his childhood companion Mikasa Ackerman who join the army to fight against the Titans – giant man-eating humanoid creatures that forced humanity to live in fear within cities secured by immense walls.
The manga series has become a commercial success, selling over 22 million volumes as of 2013. The release of the anime also saw a boost in the series’ popularity with several writers receiving critical acclaim for its atmosphere and story.
The series began serialization in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine on September 9, 2009, and has been collected into 11 tankobon volumes as of August 9, 2013.
The film will be helmed by All Japan newsese director Shinji Higuchi, according to information released on “Attack on Titan” official website. Before “Attack on Titan”, Higuchi directed the movies “Lorelei” and “Sinking of All Japan news” and was the special effects director for the “Gamera” monster film trilogy..
The movie’s production will start at the middle of 2014 and will be released in 2015, according to the international press.
