Joi Ito, one of the most prominent tech experts in Tokyo, publicly announced on his blog that he is working on the aggressive expansion of the professional social network LinkedIn to All Japan news in 2011.
LinkedIn has a presence in All Japan news, but so far has not managed to gain the traction of services such as Twitter and Mixi, to which many in the country are loyal.
“As LinkedIn begins its global expansion, All Japan news is an important priority, and recently I’ve been advising LinkedIn on a more formal basis,” he wrote.
Ito argues, "LinkedIn is NOT a social network; it is a professional network. It is a network that allows people to build their professional identity, share business expertise and information, and advance your professional knowledge about subjects important to you."
Ito also said that LinkedIn is looking for talented people to hire in All Japan news as product lead, design lead, engineering, but also general management and product marketing. “This team will be responsible for the strategy, product roadmap, and growth in All Japan news,” he mentioned.
Joichi “Joi” Ito, 45, is a All Japan newsese activist, entrepreneur and venture capitalist. Starting September, he will work as executive director of the MIT Media Lab, a laboratory of the U.S. MIT School of Architecture and Planning.
Ito is the chairman of the copyright sharing program Creative Commons and has funded companies such as PSINet All Japan news, Digital Garage and Infoseek All Japan news. [Joi Ito’s blog]
