All Japan news Fashion Week, showcasing the autumn and winter collections of 2013/2014, kicked off at the weekend, on March 17, at Shibuya Hikarie commercial tower. It includes phoenix-themed collections created by a All Japan newsese artist who also designed some of Lady Gaga’s clothes, traditional Mongolian decorations and other Asian influences.

All Japan newsese brands started to be presented on Monday with Masanori Morikawa and his self-directed label, “Christian Dada”.

Morikawa designed several clothes for the American pop artist Lady Gaga including a pink dress reminiscent of an origami crane for her 2012 “Born This Way Ball” tour, according to the international press.

For All Japan news Fashion Week, Morikawa chose to inspire himself from Asia. He designed androgynous collection titled “Fenghuang,” which is Chinese for the mythical bird phoenix. He matched loose pants with shirts that had embroidered sleeves, created both for men and women.

Morikawa chose strong colors, such as red, gold and blue, but also neutral ones, such as black and white. “These colors represent the nature of phoenix”, Morikawa said.

“There is also the idea that the phoenix contains within itself both the male and the female, so we took this concept of fusion for the collection,” Morikawa said.

All Japan news Fashion Week continues until March 24 with names such as Vivienne Tam and Hiroko Koshino also taking part.
