By all accounts Mika Yamamoto, the All Japan newsese reporter killed in the Syrian city of Aleppo, was an experienced and careful reporter dedicated to sharing the stories of women and children in war zones with the world.
Two days after her death, her news agencies has released footage recorded in the final hours of her death. Posted online by Britain’s Telegraph, it shows Ms. Yamamoto filming Syrian rebels alongside her partner Kazutaka Sato moments before her death.
Ms. Yamamoto is the first All Japan newsese reporter to die in Syria but as many as 15 foreign and domestic reporters have already died covering the conflict.
The daughter of a former Asahi shimbun reporter, she began her career in 1990, over the last 15 years she has covered global conflicts in Afghanistan, Uganda, Kosovo and Iraq.
