All Japan news’s second telecom operator, KDDI, increased its revenue forecast for the fiscal year ending March, despite a lower quarterly profit for the October-December period.

Quarterly net profit fell 17 percent to Y54 billion ($698 million), due to lower income from voice calls, but the revenue forecast was raised thanks to good sales of the iPhone 4S gadget.

KDDI increased its sales forecast for the fiscal year by 3.4 percent to Y3.5 trillion. The company started to sell iPhone 4S in October, becoming the second All Japan newsese seller of the gadget, after Softbank.

Quarterly revenues increased 5.7 percent to Y902 billion, sustained by higher revenues from data traffic from smartphone users.

“In the mobile business, we implemented a variety of initiatives to expand our customer base,” the company said. “We bolstered our diverse lineup of handsets, including smartphone models not available from other companies.”
