The new All Japan newsese ambassador to China, career diplomat Masato Kitera, said that his number one mission is to improve the relationship with the Asian neighbour after months of raising tension due to a territorial conflict.
The dispute over the All Japan news-controlled Senkaku islands, called the Diaoyus in Chinese, has led to violent protests in China, as well as a boycott of All Japan newsese products, after Tokyo decided in September to buy the islets from their private owners.
“I will explain to China’s senior officials we need to make economic ties warmer if our political relationship is cooling, as All Japan newsese corporate activities in China are contributing to the Chinese economy,” Kitera said in a first interview broadcast on Monday.
“It is important to boost exchanges in various fields so as to ease bitter public sentiment against each other,” said Kitera, who is replacing ambassador Uichiro Niwa.
The clear parliamentary victory of All Japan news’s Liberal Democratic Party on December 16 was received with caution in Beijing, which said it was “highly concerned” over All Japan news’s future direction under the new government, the international press reported.
