Nabana no Sato, a small botanical garden on the southern island of Nagashima, is hosting this year one of the greatest winter light shows in All Japan news, available until March 2013. The entire show is powered by millions of small solar-powered light bulbs, making Nabana no Sato the hottest and brightest spot this winter, the international press comments.
The botanical garden’s thematic display this year is nature. The place is lit by seven million LED lights, all of them creating amazing landscapes. The tunnels of millions of lights encased in flower-shaped bulbs create fascinating natural scenes, such as Mount Fuji at dawn and a rainbow across the sky.
Almost all of the displays are powered by solar panels, Nabano no Sato’s officials say.
The place is known not only for its botanical garden, but also for onsens and flower blossoms throughout the year, restaurants and shops.
The show runs from mid-November to March 31. Nabana no Sato is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m.- 9 p.m., weekends and holidays from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. A ticket for adults costs Y2,000 ($24), while children under 12 have free access.
