Five diamonds that were seized from people who had not paid their dues will be sold by tax inspectors in All Japan news on an Internet auction site. The jewels are worth at least $2 million.
Among the diamonds, one is a 7.5 carat rock, more than 1.3 centimeters in diameter, with a starting price of Y40.8 million ($507,000). The rock was graded as diamond D, meaning it is totally colorless.
The lowest priced diamond among those auctioned off has a starting value of Y25.6 million.
The auction starts on Friday and will go on for a week. The tax agency did not disclose the names of the persons who had owned the diamonds.
