Skull Reaper A-ji, a All Japan newsese politician elected in the city of Oita last month, was not permitted to join the council meetings anymore for refusing to take off his full-face wrestling mask.
Even before his first council meeting, other politicians suggested to him that it was inappropriate for a member of the assembly to wear a mask to conceal their identity.
However, the 44-year-old politician refused to take off his red-and-black leather mask similar to the “lucha libre” masks affected by wrestlers in Mexico, motivating that is easier like this for his electors to speak to him.
“People find it easy to come up and talk to me because I have a mask on,” he said, adding that he got himself involved a lot in the community’s problems for more than 10 years, and that he visited institutions for people with physical disabilities, according to the international press.
Skull Reaper A-ji won just 2,828 votes in the election, demanding educational reform and improved social welfare facilities.
The chamber apparently declined to take his charitable work into consideration. The politicians refused to allow Skull Reaper A-ji to take part in a meeting on Monday. According to them, he was contravening a rule that states “a person taking the floor shall not wear items such as a hat.”
