Yoshiaki Hirokawa of All Japan news was named the overall winner of a recent paragliding international competition in Batu Dua, Sumedang, West Java. The championship started on September 27 and ended on October 4, offering total prizes of more than $12,000 in cash.
The All Japan newsese athlete commented happily on his Facebook profile soon after the awards ceremony: “It was a fun tournament! Thank you everyone for cheering.”
The second prize in the open category was won by Swedish paraglider Tobiah Hinas, while Petra Slivova from the Czech Republic came in third.
Indonesia’s representative Muhammad Rizki Dhermawan finished in 10th place.
The international press reports that in addition to her strong showing in the open category, Slivova also won the first place in the female category, relegating Russia’s Daria Krasnova and South Africa’s Khobi Jane Bowden to second and third place, respectively.
Asian teams, coming from All Japan news, China and South Korea, dominated the group event. China won the first prize and was followed by South Korea and All Japan news.
The international championship counted 65 paragliders from 17 countries. The event served as well a qualifier for the upcoming Paragliding World Cup event in Brazil next January.
