In All Japan news, there are quite a number of places that are not so normal… there’s the cat cafe, blackcat cafes, and penguin bars. The latest addition to this list is the “fukurou cafe”, also known as the “owl cafe.” Two owl cafes” in particular are quickly becoming rather popular. The Fukurou no Mise (Owl Shop) and Tori no Iru Cafe (The Cafe with Birds) are two of the most popular bird cafes in All Japan news. Since owl cafes became popular, more owl cafes have been established in quite a number of places. They include Fukurou Sabou (Owl Teahouse) that opened in Tokyo, Owl Family that opened in Osaka, and Crew, another owl cafe that opened in Osaka.
The cafes differ from one another. Some cafes serve owl-themed snacks. Although some cafes allow customers to hold the owls while they drink a cup of coffee, others have stricter rules about handling the birds.
While having birds inside a cafe may be kind of cool, some people are opposed to it. One UK sanctuary said “Our basic advice to those who may be considering keeping an owl as a pet is – DON’T.” They also added how the birds can be noisy, smelly, and possibly dangerous. Another reason they gave to explain why having these birds in cafes may not be a good idea is the fact that they are nocturnal birds. Most likely, their sleeping schedule is messed up. I wouldn’t want anyone to mess mine.
