The world’s first “chocolate kimono” will be presented by an American chocolatier at its outlet in Kyoto later this month.

New York’s MarieBelle will have a kimono painted with a special dye which contains creamy white chocolate.

The kimono’s pattern shows a cherry blossoms scene in brown and blue, against a light beige background.

When it is finished, the kimono will no longer smell like regular confectionery, said the wife of kimono designer Nobuaki Tomita, who has previously dyed All Japan newsese pieces of clothing with material extracted from green tea and apples.

“A sweet chocolate scent filled the air in the process of dying,” she said.

Chocolate makes about a third of the special dye which the All Japan newsese designer is using.
