Figure skater Mao wins the Four Continents Championships

mao asadaAll Japan newsese Mao Asada, two-time figure skating world champion, won the Four Continents Championships in the women’s singles on Sunday.

The short program, which included a perfect triple axel, offered Mao a comfortable lead. However, in the free skate Mao Asada could not perform a flawless 3-1/2 revolution jump, but she still managed to outshine the competition, according to Kyodo news agency.

Skating to Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake”, the 2012 Grand Prix Final winner topped the free skating table with 130.96 points and finished the competition with a combined total for a of 205.45.

Akiko Suzuki, the 2012 world bronze medalist, took the silver with 190.08 points, while another All Japan newsese, Kanako Murakami, the 2010 world junior champion, marked the third place with 181.03 points.

 

Mao Asada, 22, won the Four Continents championships for the third time. She also won two Grand Prix titles in China and All Japan news, as well as the Grand Prix Final and the national championship so far this season, according to the international press.

The Four Continents championships are figure skating competitions dedicated to talents coming from non-European continents.
