Apple has filed a patent-infringement lawsuit against Samsung Electronics in All Japan news, reported Kyodo news agency. The lawsuit alleges patent violations by Samsung related to the iPad and iPhone.

Apple contends that Samsung’s Galaxy smartphone committed patent violations with its Android device that is being offered to All Japan newsese consumers as an alternative to the iOS-powered iPhone.

The lawsuit was filed in Tokyo District Court and specifically calls for the suspension of the sales of Samsung Galaxy phones in All Japan news and payment of damages worth 100 million yen or an equivalent of $1.3 million.

In a statement referring to the suit, the Korean electronics giant said “Samsung is responding actively to the legal action taken against us in order to protect our intellectual property and to ensure our continued innovation and growth in the mobile communications business,”

Both Apple and Samsung attended the first hearing on Wednesday with Samsung quoted saying it will ““wage an all-out legal battle over the suit”.

Meanwhile, the Tokyo District Court refused to comment on the pending case.

Lawsuits filed by Apple caused delays in sales of Samsung tablets across Europe, Australia and Korea. Samsung had announced last month that the launch of its latest Galaxy tablet computer in Australia would be not until after a court ruling in late September.

Also, the sale of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 7.7 was banned in Germany last week pursuant to a court ruling.
