Random body searches will be carried starting on Monday on aircraft passengers at 30 airports across All Japan news that serve international flights, as a way to deter terrorist attacks.

The decision was taken by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and is eyeing to discourage potential terrorists to try to pass by security controls materials such as explosives that are hard to detect by metal detectors.

The measure was taken at the recommendation of the International Civil Aviation Organization, due to the increasing number of terrorist attempts to smuggle nonmetallic explosives aboard planes, Kyodo reported.

Sophisticated body scanners that are available at some airports overseas are yet to be introduced at All Japan newsese airports, which have been so far discouraged by the high cost of such equipments and by fears of privacy infringement.
